What is Lions Camp Horizon Day Camp?
LCH Day Camp is a flexible alternative to our week-long overnight summer program. Offered September through May, day camp includes two drop-off sessions per month. The program is designed to help campers build vocational, educational, independence, and social skills through a blend of structured learning and hands-on experiences. Each camper participates in engaging group activities while also working toward their own personal goals through a customized Growth Plan, ensuring their experience is both meaningful and individualized.

Growth Plans
All day campers have the opportunity to participate in a Growth Plan.
After an initial trial session, LCH staff collaborate with the camper and their caregiver to create a plan tailored to the camper’s goals, interests, and abilities.
Campers play an active role in setting their own goals, with support from caregivers and staff. Growth Plans guide each camper’s experience at day camp. Staff use them to design both group and individual activities that align with each camper’s needs, helping them make steady, meaningful progress.

Core Curriculum
Our program focuses on four key areas: 1. Vocational Skills Campers learn practical job-readiness skills such as: - Job searching, applications, and interviewing - Workplace communication and advocacy - Conflict resolution and professionalism - Work ethic and basic computer literacy Campers may also explore specific interests like customer service, coding, Microsoft Office, or other job-related skills, and can be connected to local employment resources. 2. Education We focus on real-world application rather than academic complexity. For example, reading may include understanding signs, schedules, or instructions rather than advancing reading levels. Areas may include: - Literacy and basic math - STEM in everyday life - Social studies, music, and art - College and financial aid application support 3. Independence Campers build confidence in daily living skills, including: - Hygiene and self-care - Cooking, nutrition, and shopping - Communication and self-advocacy Individual goals may also include: - Financial literacy - Medication management - Meal planning - Household tasks and community navigation 4. Social Skills Campers practice essential social and emotional skills such as: - Communication and collaboration - Emotional regulation and self-expression - Kindness, safety awareness, and pro-social behavior Growth Plan goals may include areas like empathy, leadership, accepting feedback, and maintaining relationships.

Day Camp Activities
Each day blends structure with flexibility:
- Core Activities: Interactive group lessons, hands-on practice, and real-life application across all four curriculum areas
- Individualized Activities: Personalized or small-group work focused on Growth
- Plan goals, often using a “learning by doing” approach
- Special Activities: Community outings, cooking projects, events, or public transportation practice—shared in advance with families
LCH Day Camp is designed to meet campers where they are, helping them grow skills, confidence, and independence in a supportive, engaging environment.
